Street to School Project

Programme Overview

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, develop and imagine a future beyond survival. The IA-Foundation Street to School Project focuses on children who are out of school or at risk of being excluded from education, with the aim of supporting their transition towards learning and greater stability.

Key Programme Areas

The Challenge

Children can become disconnected from school for many reasons, including financial hardship, family circumstances, limited access to educational opportunities and other social or economic pressures. Time away from school can have long-term consequences for learning, confidence and future opportunities.

Our Response

The Street to School Project seeks to identify children who need support, understand the barriers affecting their education and connect them with appropriate pathways back into learning. Depending on individual circumstances, support may include education-related assistance, engagement with families and communities, referrals and other appropriate interventions.

Working With Families and Communities

Sustainable change requires more than enrolling a child in school. We engage relevant caregivers and community stakeholders to better understand the circumstances surrounding each child and encourage continued participation in education.

Our Goal

Our goal is to help more children move away from exclusion and towards education, safety, opportunity and hope. We believe that getting a child back into learning can be an important first step towards changing the direction of a life.

A Collective Responsibility

Bringing children back to school requires collaboration. Government, schools, families, communities, civil society, businesses and individuals all have a role to play.
